Timeless Principles

As leaders, when we learn — and life-long learning is essential for every leader — all of the leadership principles that motivate our team are timeless. That is, they’re tried and true and they’ll work for a company of any size.

I share with my clients my insights on leading with authenticity, operating with transparency, showing honesty and vulnerability about progress, and holding each other accountable.

I was part of these principles and processes in my time as an executive at Ford Motor Company, and I can help you and your team, regardless of the size of your company, operate the same way.

Executive Briefings

I was in the room where it happened.

While I was an executive at Ford, I saw firsthand how the culture changed when everyone was aligned on a clear and compelling vision, focused on working together toward a common purpose.

Through an hour-long executive briefing, I share my observations of and experience with the Working Together Leadership & Management System, telling you stories of Ford’s extraordinary comeback and answering your questions

No matter the size of your company, these are timeless principles and practices that will help you lead and succeed.

Business Plan Review

Each week at Ford, executives conducted the Business Plan Review (BPR). The BPR gave us immediate insight into the areas of the business that were doing well and those that needed help.

At its most basic, the BPR is a snapshot of many elements:

  • The external business environment

  • Our vision, strategy, and plan

  • Status and forecast

  • Special attention items.

That process and design is then cascaded down to each leader’s team and they hold their own divisional BPRs each week to inform the corporate BPR.

The process itself isn’t enough, though; by itself, it’s just a series of meetings. We have to be committed to a connected and collaborative culture in order for it to work.

If you think you’re ready for it, I can work with your team to implement a BPR for your organization, connected with the principles and practices essential for Working Together.

Strength-Based Team Coaching

Since the days of ancient Greek philosophers, we’ve known that the key to success and happiness is to know thyself.

And teams function better if they know their own strengths. I work across executive teams, beginning with an assessment of the character strengths of your team members, so together we understand who you are, what matters to you, and how you work together.

The assessment will give us:

  • An analysis of the signature strengths that are essential to making us who we are;

  • Insight into how others perceive us;

  • Research-based benefits of our best qualities;

  • An exploration of our middle and lesser strengths—and simple ways we can leverage and boost them.

The result is that your team will:

  • Feel more engaged and connected to your purpose

  • Have insights as to what drives them

  • Have heightened confidence and self-awareness

  • Be better positioned to help each other succeed

Through this engagement, I will:

  • Deliver a character strengths assessment for each team member

  • Provide individual coaching for each team member

  • Attend meetings to observe the team dynamics

  • Provide feedback and suggestions for improved communication

  • Give quarterly talks to motivate the team

Storytelling

We know that the best way to convey information to someone is through a story. And the best leaders are adept at storytelling.

If you want your team to become better communicators to internal and external audiences, they need to be good storytellers.

I offer workshops and speeches on storytelling that will help them get a feel for what makes a good story, what the powers of stories are, and how to think about different story structures and designs.
